Mayo Clinic Among Top 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2012

Fortune magazine named Mayo Clinic to its select list of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" in 2012. This is Mayo's ninth consecutive year on the magazine's annual compilation of companies that rate high with employees. The list ranks Mayo Clinic 71 overall among the top 100 companies, and 23 among 38 large employers (more than 10,000 employees). Click here to learn more.

IBM Tops Patent List

IBM has set a new U.S. patent record in 2011, marking the 19th consecutive year that the company has led the annual list of patent recipients. IBM inventors earned a record 6,180 U.S. patents in 2011, with 500 of those originating in Rochester, Minnesota. Click here to learn more.

Mayo Clinic to Build Proton Beam Therapy Center in Rochester

Mayo Clinic plans to establish the Mayo Clinic Proton Beam Therapy Program as part of Mayo's national three-site cancer center in Minnesota, Arizona and Florida. The new program will employ intensity modulated proton therapy - based on pencil beam scanning - which is a more precise form of proton therapy treatment that allows greater control over radiation doses, shorter treatment times and fewer side effects. Top Hospital List Has Mayo Clinic at No. 3 in U.S. News & World Report

A place on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll is reserved for medical centers that demonstrate unusually high expertise across multiple specialties, scoring at or near the top in at least six of 16 specialties. Rochester's Economy Among Fastest Growing in the Nation

According to a recent news release by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, Rochester, Minnesota's gross domestic product increased by 6.9 percent to $8.7 billion from 2009 to 2010. The city's growth was 14th out of 366 metro areas. "It's a very good thing," said Gary Smith, president of Rochester Area Economic Development, Inc. "It's a testament to, obviously, the strength of our economy here."

Crenlo is sold to KPS Capital Partners

KPS Capital Partners, LP ("KPS") announced in September 2011 that, through a newly formed company, International Equipment Solutions, LLC and its affiliates ("IES"), it has entered into definitive agreements to acquire Paladin Brands Holding, Inc. Geotek Doubles Capacity

A Stewartville, Minnesota, manufacturing plant is doubling its capacity and increasing production by year end. Geotek, 11 miles south of Rochester, makes fiberglass cross arms for utility poles. The business is adding 41,674 sq ft to an existing 54,000 sq feet, with most of the addition as manufacturing space. Geotek is also in the process of adding pultrusion equipment to effectively double manufacturing capacity. Geotek's workforce has doubled since 2009, going from 50 to 109 employees. Growth has been fueled by strong demand and reception of the PUPI brand products in the utility industry.

Crenlo's 60th Anniversary

Best Affordable Place to Live

Olmsted County, which includes the city of Rochester, Minnesota, is the fifth "best affordable" place to live, according to Bloomberg Businessweek in May 2011. "Factors that were most heavily weighted," according to Businessweek.com, "include housing cost, crime, unemployment, and educational attainment in the county, in addition to such other metrics as family income, poverty, commute time, air quality, diversity, and share of families with children."
